POLICIES THAT APPLY TO SUBSCRIBERS OF NIKKEI'S SERVICES

This policy describes the types of personal information ("information") we at Nikkei America Inc. ("Nikkei America") may collect from you. The policy also describes our practices for collection, use, retention, protection, and disclosure of the information.

Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding the collection and use of your information.

Nikkei Online Edition (and other related services provided through Nikkei ID) is a digital publications that are distributed by our parent company Nikkei Inc. ("Nikkei") in the United States. The collection, use, retention, protection, and disclosure of information of individual subscribers to these publications who reside in North and South America region (including you) are subject to Nikkei's privacy policy found at https://www.nikkei.com/lounge/privacy/privacy.html別タブで開きます. To know more and/or exercise your rights, you must contact Nikkei through the contact information provided in its privacy policy. Our role with respect to Nikkei's subscribers in North and South America region (including you) is to provide assistance if such subscribers have problems with their subscriptions or their use of Nikkei's other services, and in providing this assistance to a subscriber, Nikkei America may have access and utilize personal information of the subscriber.

Why we collect your information

We at Nikkei America are not involved in the collection of your information when you subscribe to and access Nikkei's publications, website, or other services. After Nikkei learns of a problem with your subscription and/or use of Nikkei's other services, Nikkei provides us the information that we require to address the problem.

We only use the information we receive from Nikkei and from you (when additional information is required) to address and resolve the problem with your subscription and/or use of other Nikkei's services. We do not use your personal information for any other purposes except we may retain and use your information for the duration necessary (1) for our administrative use, (2) for legal or compliance purposes, (3) to perform the services you require of us, and (4) to protect the security of our system.

What information we collect about you

We receive and utilize your name and contact information (email and/or phone number and/or street address) so that we can contact you to discuss the problem with you. Depending on the nature of the problem, we may request that you provide us with other types of information necessary to address and resolve the problem, including but not limited to your payment information.

We do not collect information about you from sources other than Nikkei and we do not use web beacons or similar software to collect any additional personal information from you.

To whom we give your information

We do not disclose, provide, distribute, give, share, or sell the information that we received from Nikkei and/or from you to any other persons or entities except when you correct any information that Nikkei has, we will provide the corrected information to Nikkei.

How long we keep your information

We keep the information for three months so that if you or we have additional questions or concerns about the problem we will have the information available for resolution. In that case, we delete your information after the problem is resolved.

Your right to know, correct, and delete

  • Notice at Collection:
    At or before the time we at Nikkei America collect any information from you, you have the right to know the categories of information we collect from you, the purpose for which we collect the information, how long we will retain the information, and whether we share or sell the information to any person.
  • Right to Know:
    You have the right to know the information we at Nikkei America have about you. If you desire to know the information that Nikkei America has in its possession about you, send a written request to us by email to [email protected] or in writing to our address provided below.
  • Right to Correct:
    You have the right to ask us to correct any information that we at Nikkei America collect about you. Send us your request by email to [email protected] or in writing to our address provided below.
  • NO Right to Delete:
    Nikkei America will not consent to deletion of information we have about you because we have collected the information for a business purpose—that is, to resolve a problem in connection with your subscription to Nikkei Online Edition, and/or use of other services provided by Nikkei. As stated above in this policy, we only keep the information for three months after the problem is resolved in case you or we need to address the problem so your information will not be maintained after it is no longer required.
  • Authorized Agent:
    You can designate an authorized agent to make a request to exercise your rights on your behalf. Please provide the agent with permission in writing, in a document that you have signed, by which you have authorized the agent to submit a request on your behalf. The agent must submit that written permission along with the request to us. We may contact you to verify your identity and the agent's identity before we respond to your request.
  • Non-Discrimination Rights:
    You have the right to exercise your rights listed here without fear of discrimination.

SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We have implemented measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. However, the transmission of information via email and the internet is not completely secure so we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. We are not responsible for unauthorized access—that is hacking—of our information technology system. If you have reason to believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, notify us immediately.

This policy describes the types of personal information ("information") we at Nikkei America Inc. ("Nikkei America") may collect from you. The policy also describes our practices for collection, use, retention, protection, and disclosure of the information.

Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding the collection and use of your information.

Why we collect your information

Nikkei America provides corporate subscribers to Nikkei Online Edition(and other related services provided through Nikkei ID) published by our parent company Nikkei Inc. ("Nikkei") with "corporate subscription service" through which their employees are able to access the publications. To enable employees of such corporate subscribers to be provided such access, Nikkei America requires that a subscriber provide us with the names and email addresses of its employees for whom the subscriber desires access to be provided, so that we can arrange those employees' online access.

What information we collect about you

We collect the names and email addresses of the employees of our corporate subscribers who will be permitted access to Nikkei's publications through our corporate subscription service. We do not collect any other information about these employees.

When accessing the publications, Nikkei may collect additional information from corporate subscribers and/or their employees who are granted access to our corporate subscription service. The collection, use, retention, protection, and disclosure of information of individual employees are subject to Nikkei's privacy policy found at https://www.nikkei.com/lounge/privacy/privacy.html別タブで開きます.

How we use your information

We use information we obtain about employees of our corporate subscribers who have access to our corporate subscription service to contact them with marketing and promotional material an employee who has been provided access to our corporate subscription service may desire that their personal information not be used for marketing purposes. Any person who does not want us to use personal information for marketing purposes, either by us, our parent company, or our affiliates, must request by email to [email protected] or in writing to the address provided below that they be removed from any or all lists for marketing maintained by Nikkei America.

We provide your information to Nikkei and our affiliates solely for marketing purposes. We do not disclose, provide, give, distribute, share or sell your personal information to any other persons or entities.

How long we keep your information

We retain personal information of an employee of a corporate subscriber who has been granted access to Nikkei publications through our corporate subscription program for our administrative use, legal, compliance, to perform the services you require of us. In addition, even if the corporate subscriber or the employee shall cease to have such access, we will continue to retain the personal information for marketing purposes, such as service or seminar announcements, until either the corporate subscriber or the employee request us to delete it.

Your right to know, correct, and delete

  • Notice at Collection:
    At or before the time we at Nikkei America collect any information directly from or concerning an employee with access through the corporate subscription program, that employee has the right to know the categories of information we collect from or about them, the purpose for which we collect the information, how long we will retain the information, and whether we share or sell the information to any person.
  • Right to Know:
    An employee with access to Nikkei's publications through the corporate subscription program has the right to know what personal information we have collected from or about them.   • Right to Correct:
    An employee with access to Nikkei's publications through the corporate subscription program has the right to request that we correct any incorrect information we maintain about such employee.     If an employee with access to Nikkei's publications through the corporate subscription program want us to delete their information, a request for such information must be sent by email to [email protected] or in writing to the address provided below.
  • Authorized Agent:
    An employee with access to Nikkei's publications through the corporate subscription program can designate an authorized agent to make a request to exercise their rights on their behalf. Please provide the agent with permission in writing, in a document signed by the employee with access to Nikkei's publications through the corporate subscription program, by which the employee has authorized the agent to submit a request on their behalf. The agent must submit that written permission along with the request to us. We may contact the employee to verify their identity and the agent's identity before we respond to the request.
  • Non-Discrimination Rights:
    Every individual has the right to exercise the rights listed here without fear of unlawful discrimination.

Why we collect your information

Periodically, Nikkei America offers seminars and webinars to members of the public, and in connection with these opportunities for the public Nikkei America collects certain information from those members of the public who register to attend and/or who attend a seminar or webinar offered by Nikkei America. The collection, use, retention, protection, and disclosure of personal information of the individuals who register to attend our seminars and webinars and/or who attend Nikkei America's seminars and webinars are subject to the following terms.

We market our seminars and webinars through email messages to you at your email that you previously provided to us for the purpose of marketing such seminars and webinars or that we received from our affiliates or a company hosted events jointly that had your consent to share the information with us. We send information about our seminars and webinars utilizing the services of MailChimp, a third party vendor. We hold our webinars through Zoom, a third party vendor. MailChimp and Zoom maintain their own privacy policies and practices. What information we collect about you

If you register to attend one of our seminars or webinars or if you attend a seminar or webinar, we collect your name, email address, the country and state (or province) in which you are located, the name of your employer, and your position with your employer. We also receive the same types of information about you from our affiliates to whom you have provided your consent so that they can share your information with us.

If you do not want to provide any personal information to us, please DO NOT register for a seminar or webinar.

How we use your information

We use this information to identify you when you attend our seminar or webinar. We also use your information for marketing our seminars/webinars and to market to you services of our parent company Nikkei Inc. ("Nikkei") and affiliates.
