2020.09.22 Data Scientist Shotaro Ishihara wins INMA "30 Under 30" Asia Pacific Best Award

On September 17th the International News Media Association (INMA) announced that Shotaro Ishihara (27), a data scientist with the Nikkei Inc. Business Information Services Unit, Digital Business, was awarded the Global News Media Young Professional Rising Stars "30 Under 30" Award - Grand Prize in the Asia-Pacific category.

The INMA selected 30 out of a total of 163 candidates for the "30 Under 30" Awards. Mr. Ishihara was among the 6 highest award honorees selected by region out of those 30.

Mr. Ishihara joined Nikkei in 2017. He works as a data scientist in the Business Information Services Unit, Digital Business. Outside of the company, he has won multiple top prizes in data science competitions, including the title of "Kaggle Master" in the "Kaggle" contest held for data scientists by a Google subsidiary. Prior to joining Nikkei, he had experience serving as the editor-in-chief of his university student newspaper, where he had also served in previous roles as head of advertising and events.

The INMA said of Ishihara: "Rare and interesting combination. No one else had such a combination: outstanding technical skills, relevant editorial experience and a clear understanding of the challenges in the media industry".
